Hobart

Hobart is Tasmania's capital city, nestled in the foothills of the impressive Mount Wellington and serviced by one of the world's deepest ports on the River Derwent.  Hobart and its mountain backdrop have been used in YHA and Lonely Planet marketing material.

Hobart is a thriving city with historic settlements, modern shopping and MONA. The Museum of old and new art (MONA) is accessible by ferry, car and free bicycle hire.

A host of festivals keep things moving throughout the year.  The Sydney Hobart Yacht race is greeted by the Taste of Tasmania. MONA Foma, the Festival of Voices, greek festival, italian festival.  Winter has been brought alive by another MONA creation and ten days on the island and the wooden boat festival appear every other year.

It is also the gateway to many tours to the other attractions such as bruny Island, Port Arthur and Richmond.
