Hobart is Tasmania's capital city, nestled in the foothills of the impressive Mount Wellington and serviced by one of the world's deepest ports on the River Derwent.  Hobart and its mountain backdrop have been used in YHA and Lonely Planet marketing material.

Hobart is a thriving city with historic settlements, modern shopping and MONA. The Museum of old and new art (MONA) is accessible by ferry, car and free bicycle hire. 

A host of festivals keep things moving throughout the year.  The Sydney Hobart Yacht race is greeted by the Taste of Tasmania. MONA Foma, the Festival of Voices, greek festival, italian festival.  Winter has been brought alive by another MONA creation and ten days on the island and the wooden boat festival appear every other year.

It is also the gateway to many tours to the other attractions such as bruny Island, Port Arthur and Richmond.

  • A Plyed Yarns is about making interesting hand spun yarns for creative knitting and crocheting. We blend a range of natural fibres to produce interesting and durable yarns for a range of purposes. We particularly love Alpaca, Cashmere, wool. Combining smaller amounts of bamboo and silk in our yarns. We will even provide a story or two for good measure.

    Hayley (m: 0401 068386) is currently a provisional Psychologist, building on her existing skills as a rehabilitation consultant. Hayley is particularly keen to gain experience in psychometrics and volunteers are welcome.

The studio is in South Hobart. You can walk to town or the wharf in about thirty minutes. Public Buses are frequent or bring your own transport.

    Mik*'s latest aquisition is some beautifully soft and strong and warm chocolate coloured hand spun Alpaca. This home spun Alpaca is great for winter jumpers and beanies and scarves, with much less of the itchiness that can be caused by wool.
